Founded in 1869, Forward Township was named after Walter Forward who served as secretary of the treasury under President John Tyler.
The area was formally known as “Jersey Settlement” due to the influx of migrants from New Jersey in the mid- to late-1700’s.
Forward was the birthplace of Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher and record-holder Ronald Necciai.
Forward boasts plenty of beautiful greenspaces which offer breathtaking views of the Monongahela Valley.
Several baseball fields and a basketball court are located at the Forward Township Park at Gallatin Sunnyside.
